Because Laulima is composed of frames you and your students may get unexpected results when trying to print from within Laulima Here are some tips to help:
Internet Explorer - DON'T use the Print icon on the toolbar! Instead, click in the content screen, and then click on "File," "Print." Within the resulting Print dialog box, click on the "Options" tab, choose "Only the selected frame," and then click the "Print" button.
Firefox - Right-click in the content screen. When the alternate menu appears, roll your mouse over "This Frame" and click "Open Frame in New Window." This removes frames from the page and allows you to print just the content you want (NOTE: you may have to navigate to the content again). You can then print as you normally would by using the Print button on the toolbar or through the File menu.
Safari - No known printing issues and requires no special steps. Just print as usual.

For those of you getting ready to offer your courses online using Laulima, here's some great news! There are new student resources available, including an orientation, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and tutorials are now available. Here are the links that you can include in your pre-course contact emails, Syllabus, and elsewhere within your course for easy student access:
Student Orientation - http://www.hawaii.edu/talent/webctfacultysupport/laulimastudentorientation/
Note: When providing this link to students you may want to mention that the orientation features some Flash movies without audio.
FAQs - http://www.hawaii.edu/talent/laulima_studfaq.htm - These FAQs address a number of topics, including how to log in to a course, solutions to log in problems, and working with some of the tools that students commonly ask you.
Tutorials - http://www.hawaii.edu/talent/laulima_studtutorials.htm - These tutorials cover how to use some of the common tools found in online courses such as the Assignment, Quiz, and Discussion/Private Messages tools.

Hi Everyone,
There were a couple of questions asked during the workshops that I was unable to answer. I forwarded these questions to Kenwrick Chan, Info. Tech. Specialist at Manoa, and here are his answers:
Q1) Is there any way to turn off the "Copy" Action within the student view of Resources?
A1) Sorry not at this time, perhaps at some future point.
Q2) Is it possible to use publisher e-packs with Laulima?
A2) If it's WebCT-based content, then we could load it [in a WebCT course] and do a conversion [to Laulima].

Manoa IT has stated that "a firewall issue several weeks ago affected the enrollments for some Spring 2008 courses. Scripts are being run to reconcile this. If you find differences between your banner enrollments and Laulima enrollments, please send a message with your CRN info to itech-l@hawaii.edu to request a sync of your course."

Converting from WebCT to Laulima
For those of you who are currently using WebCT, you will be able to transition certain things over to Laulima. Based upon the most current information that I have the conversion can do three things, based upon what you choose it moves:
- Test and quiz questions into the Laulima "Tests and Quizzes" tool.
- Documents, web pages, and other content into Laulima's "Resources" tool. The content in Laulima's Resources should look just like it did in WebCT's "My-Files".
- Organizer pages and content modules into Laulima's "Modules" tool.
Note: It does not copy or create discussions, assignments, chats, or other items you may currently have. You will have to add these tools into your Laulima course.
Manoa's Information Technology Support will be handling the conversion for you. To request a conversion go to http://www.hawaii.edu/itunesu/laulima/
As a heads-up, you will need to give them the following information:
- Campus
- Course CRN(s)
- Semester/TERM
- Title (e.g. MAN.70105.20830) of the WebCT course
Also, towards the bottom of the webpage you are given the ability to choose what you want converted over (i.e., files from my-Files, content modules, and/or quizzes).
Once your course is converted over to Laulima you may have to make a few minor changes as Laulima is more text-based, whereas WebCT has a more graphical interface. To help with the transition I will be conducting workshops during the coming year that will help you work through the conversion.

Laulima is now up and available to start using, either in a development or instructional capacity. WebCT will still be available until September 29, 2008 when the contract expires. Thus, you can use WebCT for your Spring 2008 course(s) while you're transitioning over to Laulima for Fall 2008. Or, you can start using Laulima right away.
To log in to Laulima, go to https://laulima.hawaii.edu/portal . Click on the "Log in" link at the top right-hand corner of your screen and enter your UH username and password. Once logged in you will be in the My Workspace screen. Near the top of the screen you should see tabs for your classes. If not, let me know and we'll have to contact Manoa to add your course(s).
Note: These courses are unpublished, thus students will not have access to them until you're finished developing the course and choose to publish it.
I will be teaching an "Intro to Laulima" workshop soon after the beginning of the new year (and throughout the year thereafter) that will introduce you to the environment and some of the tools that most commonly used. However, to give you an opportunity to check out the environment, I have provided a copy of an email (see the "LaulimaTools.pdf" link below listed under "Podcast") that was sent out recently from Manoa concerning Laulima and some of it's features (note: the first email that is referred to only discussed the Laulima starting date so I didn't attach that one). I have also included a link below to some tutorials that they have created:

Aloha Everyone,
As you may already know, UH will no longer be using WebCT after September 29, 2008 when the current contract runs out. Instead, all courses will be delivered online by Laulima, UH's name for Sakai. As can be expected, this is causing a lot of anxiety. So, in the hope of lowering the stress levels a little I am instituting this blog as way of communicating news about all things Laulima -- transitioning from WebCT to Laulima, upcoming workshops, etc. And, I will add new information as I get it from UH Manoa.
Additionally, this blog will provide a community space to share information, get answers to any questions you may have, and to network with other faculty at UHH who are using Laulima. This is done by clicking on the "comments" link below and to the right of each entry.
So, here we go...
